![]() Welcome to the website of the RSPCA Herefordshire Branch
Please note that because of volunteer unavailability, this site will not be updated until late December. Please contact us on 0845 200 2962 for up to date information. We work in Hereford and throughout the county to further the same animal welfare aims as the national organisation. We are currently offering FREE cat neutering to people who qualify. We have now extended this to pay a substantial proportion of the cost for neutering dogs also. Please see our Getting help page. We are very grateful to everyone who made donations or purchases during our collection in Hereford recently. We rely on such generosity to continue our work to help animals in the county. We regularly receive messages from people who seem unaware that Herefordshire is in the west of England, on the Welsh border, and is not to be confused with a similarly named county just north of London. In 2007, it cost us over £100,000 to find new homes for animals that needed them, help people obtain medical treatment for their animals, and support the local RSPCA Inspectors and Animal Collection Officers in their work. In 2007, we re-homed 57 dogs, 76 cats and over 120 other animals, mainly rabbits and birds. We helped treat 103 cats, dogs and rabbits, in addition to our cat neutering scheme which supported 77 neuterings. The RSPCA Inspectors and Animal Collection Officers are part of the national organisation, not our Branch, but they are active in Herefordshire too. In 2007, they responded to over 2,000 calls in Herefordshire, involving over 9,000 animals. More than 700 of the calls were complaints about suspected ill treatment or suffering, mostly about sheep and cattle (over 2,000), but also involving almost 900 dogs, 300 cats and 600 small animals (eg rabbits). The other calls were about animals who were lost, injured or needed to be rescued. Most of these were cats or wildlife. Like the national organisation, we are entirely self-financing.We receive no money from the Government, from the National Lottery, or from any other "official" source. To find out more about us, please use the menu on the left. This site was last updated on 24 October 2008 - please see the What's new page.
